Today's Featured Biography
Christy Allen Wenciker
Since graduating high school in 1974, I moved back to Conroe, Texas. I worked in downtown Houston, Texas for Gulf Oil. After moving back to McPherson, I worked for Farmers Alliance, Memorial Hospital, Carroll D. Winslow Accounting, and Hospira (which was purchased by Pfizer, Inc. in 2018). I processed payroll for over 5,000 colleagues in McPherson and for the Rocky Mount, North Carolina plant. It was my dream job. I met many former classmates along the way while working in McPherson. I retired from Pfizer as a Payroll Specialist in 2022. Since I was the "new girl" in high school, I didn't really know a lot of people at McPherson High. One former classmate admitted to me that she really should have been nicer to me, but everyone already had their friends. I told her that's okay--but to tell her kids and grandkids to always be nice to the "new kids". I raised our daughter and also shared with granddaughters to be nice to everyone, especially new kids or those who looked lonely. They followed my advice, and they told me about the many wonderful people they became friends with along the way! I also met a wonderful "new girl" at McPherson High, Joyce Stoffel. Mrs. Jones, the Home Economics teacher, put us together on a project. She must have known we needed each other. Here we are 50 years later, and Joyce and I are still best friends! My husband, Marion, and I moved to Wichita in 2021 and we absolutely love it here.
