Tamala Karch

Since Graduation, I graduated from Ball State University with a B.S. in Education. MAJOR: Physical Education
(K-12) and MINORs in Sports Medicine and Aquatics. Following Graduation from Ball State in 1983, I was a Full-Time Sub around Indianapolis (to include our Alma Mater). I was also a Volunteer Firefighter with Castleton VFD and served as an EMT.

After learning of Teaching Positions in Brownsville, TX from a Friend I worked with at Girl Scout Camps during the Summers, I moved to South Texas in 1985. I began teaching Physical Education at the Elementary Level and then picked up a Degree in Generic Special Education and moved up to the H.S. Level with both Learning Disabled and Emotionally Disturbed H.S. Students. I also Coached X-Country and Track.

I lived and taught in Brownsville, TX with the Brownsville Independent School District for 16-Years. The last 10-Years was also spent as a US Army Reservist with the 691st Ordnance Company (Unit Deactivated after 7-Years); then, I became a Member of the 370th Transportation Company.

At year 16, I entered Active Duty in the Army and was stationed at Fort McCoy, WI with the Non-Commissioned Officer's Academy as Cadre instructing the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer and Battle Staff NCO Courses. I was promoted to Sergeant First Class (SFC) and moved across Fort McCoy to the Army Reserve Readiness Training Center as a Senior Instructor for the Army's Training Readiness and Resource Basic, Manager's, and Schools and Academies Courses, as well as, Company Trainer's and Training Management Courses.

When my Dad was diagnosed with Terminal Renal Cell Cancer in 2002, I was nominated for an Inspector General's Position with 88th Regional Readiness Command, Fort Snelling, MN. My Duty Location was in Indianapolis, IN at the Kessler USAR Center. This gave me the opportunity to spend some quality time with my Dad and Family prior to his passing on 29 JUN 03.

Within 6-Months, I was promoted to Master Sergeant and by FEB '05, was reassigned to the 63rd Regional Readiness Command in Southern California at the Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB), Los Alamitos, CA.

On 02 JUN 06, I Deployed with a Subordinate Unit to Logistical Support Area Anaconda, Balad, Iraq. I was the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of the Transportation Section. In short, I ran Convoy Logistal Patrols and ensured their safety from Home Base to Designated Location around Forward Operating Bases in Iraq. I returned to the States on 10 AUG 07 and returned to my previous position as the NCOIC of G3 Individual Training.

My Military Home of Record (HOR) is Brownsville, TX. It will remain my HOR until I come off Active Duty.
