Today's Featured Biography
Lori Adams DuRussel
I've had a great time lately enjoying a non-eventful year with my family. I have three wonderful kids (ages 8, 6, and 4), and the older they get, the more fun it is to interact with them and see how their interests grow. I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I've become an official soccer mom (aargh!), but it's all fun, and we do a good job of not over-programming any of the kids. One activity per child is usually our rule of thumb!
My husband, Mark, and I appreciate the time we spend together, both with our kids and by ourselves. After the kids are asleep he and I play a lot of board & card games (e.g., Carcassonne, San Juan, Scrabble) with each other, and our favorite type of evening is to have a group of friends over for games nights. We also periodically get the itch to travel, and we've visited quite a few cool places in our time together.
While my main job is being at home with the kids, I also do part-time consulting work with a local adoption agency. I coordinate and teach parenting- and adoption-related classes, maintain the website (www.cffwi.org), and help out with a variety of administrative tasks.
I am also lucky to be able to maintain my balance through a variety of other activities as well: tennis, book club, woman's circle, meditation group, YMCA workouts/dancing/yoga. Both my mom and my sister, Krissy, are here in Madison, and I see them very frequently for dinner or coffee, or at one of Krissy's gigs. (Kris is now a singer/songwriter -www.krisadamsmusic.com. She's really good!)
If I look back to how I got to this point, it includes a varied history: computer consulting/software development; grad school in cognitive science; breast cancer diagnosis & treatment (I'm 7 years cancer-free--yay!); 1 pregnancy and 2 adoptions enabling our family to grow... It's been quite a ride.
I don't think about PHS very often, but I'm really glad that I've ended up where I have. Life is good!
