You know it's been 50 years when you look in the mirror and don't recognize the person you see. Good grief!

Graduation was followed by two years at Highland and 2-1/2 at U of I Champaign for a degree in mechanical engineering. Job offers didn't exactly come rolling in and the Peace Corps looked like a definite possibility. But Honeywell Aerospace circulated my resume to other divisions and an outfit named Micro Switch was interested. I accepted their offer.

Twenty seven years later Honeywell was purchased by Allied Signal, a company led by a trained chimpanzee (supported by his cadre of sycophants) who wanted to be the next "Chainsaw" Jack Welch (CEO of GE.) "Allied" ceased to exist due to a poor public image while the Honeywell name headed the new corporation. Unfortunately HON's "Pursuit of Excellence" culture also disappeared in favor of the "Fad of the Year" of shipping jobs to China and covering up the consequences. In 2008 after nearly 36 years I got the tap on the shoulder and an hour later was out in the parking lot with all my possessions in a box.

So I've been retired for 10 years. But during those 36 years I managed to indulge in motorcycle touring, wilderness canoeing, skydiving, scuba diving and competitive pistol shooting. In 1986 I met my first wife, JoAnne (a metallurgical engineer from Chicago) through work and we married in 1990. Twenty-eight years later she's still my first wife. (And deserves a medal for it, too!)

The wilderness canoeing trips have been replaced by frequent week-long visits to the North Shore of Lake Superior as well as some other destinations in Canada and Central America.

We call Park Hills Church our home and if anyone is still around after Saturday night's reunion festivities, please feel free to visit on Sunday.
