Susan Couch Kump

Right out of high school and not ready to face collage, I went to work for the Young Adult Conservation Corp. We did projects for the Payette National Forest and I loved being in the woods! This is where I meet my first husband who was from McCall. We were married for almost five years. All I will say is the best thing that came of that was my son Fred. I was divorced in 1985 and I landed a job on the Range Crew at the New Meadows Ranger District that same summer. That winter, when I was due to lay off, they offered to teach me to scale logs. I was game although I had never heard of that job. Scale as in Fish? or Scale as in the mountain? NO! Measure Logs!! It turned into a career for me. I worked for the Payette National Forest in McCall for 30+ years doing timber measurements and have now retired. I meet my present husband in New Meadows and we were married in 1988.He was Chief Deputy in Adams County until he retired. My son Fred got married and gave me two wonderful Grandkids! Max and Olivia are the center of our universe. Luckily they live just across town so I get lots of Grandma time.
Update 04/2018: YaHoo, I retired!
