Vernon Watanabe
I was born and raised on the island of Kauai, Lihue. My parents is Ryohei and Helen Watanabe. I have two sisters Loreen Pukahi and Lynette Suifanua and a brother Leslie Watanabe. I attended Kahuku my last year in high school. I also attended BYUH for 2 years and worked as an electrician helper with my dad. Served a mission in Osaka, Japan. Married Althea K. Pauole on July 15, 1972 at the LDS Church in Kalihi by Bishop Apo. I've worked for a freelance contractor until 1974. Applied for the Hawaii Army National Guard at Headquarters Diamond and stayed for 10 years and left as a recruiter. I'm still in the guard as a weekend warrior. I also worked for the LDS church as a maintenance worker for 5 yrs. And then moved on to HawaiianTelephone Co.
We have 6 children - four boys and two girls and 7 grandchildren. The two oldest son's Chad and Shon served their missions in Montana, and LA, a daughter Leonani served her mission in Suva, Fiji, and a son Zen, served the same mission as his father the mission has change to Nagoya, Japan and just return this past April. Vernon's youngest daughter Aya,(20yrs. old) works at KMart Kapolei and his youngest son Ammon who is 14 years old is attending KAHUKU HIGH SCHOOL! He's 6ft. and 210 lbs. And he plays for the JV football team. He lives with my niece Cher and my mom. Right now the highlight of this year is my 60th birthday and I'm RETIRING from the National Guard with 38 years.
