With great sorrow,...
Robert (Bobby) Shoyer Courtland died unexpectedly in Arizona on April 17, 2016. This trip was one he took annually for business and pleasure.
He will be sorely missed by all the friends he collected through the years with his kindness, generosity, warmth, and overall spectacular personality.
Our sympathies go to his wife Terri, his three children (2 daughters, 1 son) and the rest of his family.

Robert Jenkins
In the great scheme of things, my life has been good -- got my BA in journalism and then spent 43 years working for papers in Michigan, Long Island and then in St. Pete, Fla., where I met the (second, and best) wife. Two marvelous sons from that marriage, two children whom I have a distant relationship with from the first marriage -- they both live in the Northern Va. suburbs.
I'm now a freelance travel writer, traveling like crazy -- five cruises in Europe this summer, time in Stockholm, Moscow, old St. Petersburg, Rome, etc. Headed to Antarctica at the end of November 2012.
I sell articles to the Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, Miami Herald, CruiseCritic.com and my beloved ex-employer of 39 years, the Tampa Bay (formerly, St. Petersburg) Times, AAA mags, This year I helped revise two Florida guidebooks -- not very creative but I got paid decently -- and I am contracted to revise a third guidebook next spring.
