Today's Featured Biography
Doris Goldsmith Melnick
After graduating from CSU in 1968, I taught one year for DPS; one semester on split- session at Thomas Jefferson High School and the second semester, opening a new school, Hamilton Junior High. In 1969 I moved to California and started teaching for the Norwalk-La Mirada School District as a 7th grade Language Arts teacher. I continued for nine years, getting married to Martin Melnick in 1976. I retired to be a stay-at-home mom to Matthew and Marissa. In 1982 we moved to Welwyn, England for one year where Marty worked for British Aerospace. It was an exciting year full of travel and new experiences, especially for a three and six year old. We moved to Rancho Palos Verdes, California and I later returned to substitute teaching when both children were in school full time. In 1996, I went back to teaching full time for five years, and then permanently retired to care for my aging parents, who lived to be 90 and 97. In 2008, we moved to Newport Coast, California and also have a second home in Rancho Mirage, California. I now spend my time volunteering in an Emergency Room at a local hospital, attending classes at my local gym, visiting our two grandchildren in Maryland, and playing competitive Mah Jonng, especially in tournaments all over the US.
Seeing everyone at our 50th exceeded our expectations, and we are already thinking about our 55th in 2019.
