Today's Featured Biography
Donette Porter Dake
Stan and I live in the mountains above Los Gatos and have lived there for 30 years. We recently remodeled a home we built in 1976. It took us quite a long while, but we are happy with the results. We have a lab/mastiff mix called Benson and three cats. One of our cats recently made it to the March month of the Los Gatos Vet Hospital calendar.
I graduated with a BA in Business Education from San Jose State in 1959 and an MA in 1969 (okay, 10 years is a long time to work on it!) I taught and was a Career Education Dean at West Valley College, a total of 39 years. Stan went to San Jose City College, completing his electrical journeyman's degree. He then became a cable splicer and owned his own business for over 20 years, now run by our son. Our daughter is a business litigant for a law firm in Palo Alto. It is great that they live close by.
We have two grandchildren who both recently earned college degrees in psychology. Josh is now living in Washington DC and working for a group that contacts Congressmen to get them to think about things like the environment that needs protecting. He has applied to enter George Mason University in Public Policy. Our Granddaughter lives in San Jose and works for an upscale steakhouse while she decides her life path. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in August of 2006. Whew! 50 years! We celebrated by returning to our honeymoon spot in Lake Tahoe, and by treating ourselves to our sixth trip to the island of Hawaii. We just love it there It is so relaxing. Who cares that it rained 9 days out of 10?.
We like to party with family, travel, putter, and go to the theater and Sharks games. Mostly, life has been kind to us, and we are quite happy to be retired.
