Howard DeSart

Martha (King-Class of '54)and I were married in 1953,while we were still at Fremont. We graduated together in 1954.In August 2010 we celebrated our 58th wedding anniversary. We have four daughters. Our eldest Diane and her 13 year old daughter live with us. Adrianne the second daughter has two children and still lives in Silicon valley. Both of her kids have left the nest. The oldest will be a Junior at SJ State next semester. Susan the third daughter and her husband are Evangelists who travel most of the time, raising money for the Apache Creek Deaf and Youth Ranch in New Mexico. Her husband is an author and Motivational Speaker. Last to come along is Linda who lives with her husband in Roseville, Calif. No children, just a dog.
I worked a few labor jobs after graduation and then decided on law enforcement as a career. I worked as a deputy sheriff in Alameda County and then went to work for Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department. After 30 years and a heart attack, I retired in 1987. In 2000, we sold our home in New Almaden and moved to Diamond Springs in Eldorado County. I have been very active in the International Police Association (IPA) and 18 years ago,was selected by the US-IPA President to be the liaison for the Austrian Section. The organization is strictly travel and social and I make arrangements for US members who request assistance in travel to Austria. In addition, when Austrian members travel to the US and request assistance, I make all the arrangements. Our family has hosted almost 200 IPA members from all over the world, but mostly from Austria. We have traveled to Austria six times, and have visited many European countries and have done family history research in Belgium and Netherlands. I have tracked my fifth great grandfather to Liege, Belgium and am trying to catch up with his father.
I have really enjoyed being a part of the Fremont Hi Class of '53 reunion committee. We started with our 20 year reunion. We have been quite successful in keeping track of our classmates and arranging a reunion every five years. The last two reunions have been held at Serra Park in Sunnyvale and attendance has been approximately 100 each time. We hire a BBQ caterer so that we can socialize instead of trying to fix food. Those who have attended were very complimentary of the committees efforts.
