Today's Featured Biography
Laura Wanerman Phipps
Since graduation I have become a bit of a nomad spending time in Europe, living in SF, moving to Seattle for grad school, back to SF, and then finally settling (for now) in Durham, NC. I know that sounds random, but my husband grew up here and so we are raising two kids in the south. It has been an eye opening experience and we have really come to love a lot of things about living here, but I will always be a Californian at heart and miss the west coast.
I got my masters degree in social work from UW in Seattle in 1995 and have been working in the public schools ever since. Currently I work in the central office as a teacher trainer and coach (not athletics) for schools participating in the Positive Behavior Support Program. In a nutshell we help schools rethink their approach to discipline to better support student's needs and change school climate. I love what I do and it is very flexible which is crucial as we have two very young kids.
Parenthood is a crazy rollercoaster for us, but we are loving our two boys. Our oldest has had some medical issues and we have spent a lot of time in hospitals, but he is doing great and we have learned a lot about ourselves and what we are capable of overcoming. That is probably too deep for this venue, but we just got through another surgery last week so it is fresh for me.
Can't wait to catch up with all of you next month. For those of you not coming to the reunion, I would love to catch up via email...
