Today's Featured Biography
After high school, I attended Brigham Young University. I graduated from there in 1992 receiving my BS in Business with an emphasis in marketing. I decided to stay in Utah and work since after work I could do a variety of outdoor activities. I had some of the best times hiking, biking, camping, going to Lake Powell and having wonderful friends. In 1997, I married Scott Horrocks and moved to Idaho. Since he had a MBA, spoke Russian and like to live in far flung places, I certainly didn't think that we would stay in Idaho (obviously I thought wrong). Scott and his brother run their father's concrete ready-mix business. We lived in Blackfoot, Idaho, for about nine years. We used that time to save money for land and so that we could build a home. To "save", we purchased a mobile home park (w/the brother), lived in a double-wide that was a true mobile home complete with the brake lights and trailer hitches still on it after 20 years, and while I managed the park, Scott did the maintenance until our home was finished. Needless to say, it was only a little over a year after we moved that we sold that investment. But, it all paid off in the long run. We purchased 80 acres near a town called Lava Hot Springs(actually the name is Lava Hot Springs Village :)) and build a large home(complete with concrete walls--no it doesn't look like a bomb shelter). Scott is really a farmer at heart (I didn't know that)and has planted 150 trees on the property, built a "pond" using a natural spring and knows all types of noxious weeds and how to kill them. When he isn't playing Farmer Ted he goes to work. I stay at home with our children. When the new school year starts I will have 2 children in school and two at home. We live 15 minutes from the school and a grocery store and 30 minutes from the nearest Wal-Mart. Out my front windows, there is a river and grassy meadows for our neighbor's cattle and sheep. The kids have pretty much free reign playing and riding motorcycles. Mornings find me walking down to the paved road which is 3/4 of a mile and back. I never would have believe it had someone said I would be living in Idaho let alone the country and away from L.A. Lucky for me, my parents still live in the same house (with the same furniture and decor)and my sister & also my brother live in Orange County, so I get to come home, shop at South Coast(which is Nirvana), go to Huntington with my old (and trashed) Boogie board and teach my kids how to have a great time in the ocean and then, I get to go home to a quiet and very happy life. I have learned new skills like driving a front-end loader to clear the road of snow, how to get it really stuck because I really don't know what the crap I am doing, being prepared by always having a good pair of boots in my Yukon whether it be winter or summer, reading the river and being an expert (to my children) in tubing the river, and dealing with runaway cattle grazing on our lawn. So, while no one told me that children were much more difficult than any job I ever had, or that I would speak to my really great friends (Pito, Skippy, J and Koda) less and less over time or that what I thought was great in 1988 really would only be great right then, or that I would be stunned that I had been out of college longer that I was ever in school,I would never switch a single experience.
