Today's Featured Biography
Jennifer Slavik Lohman
After high school, I attended the U of A and watched a lot of basketball while majoring in history and classical studies. Following graduation, I went to Notre Dame Law School.
Three years at one of the most conservative law schools in the country gave me three things along with my J.D.: a new religion, a husband, and a newfound appreciation for moderate/liberal politics.
Don and I "met" the first week of school, although I couldn't remember his name. He and I were in the same group who ate lunch together every day, and after a whole semester had passed, I realized that it was too late to ask his name! So I combed through our student directory looking for someone from Illinois who went to Quincy College, and figured it out. (I finally revealed that deep, dark secret to him last year!)
We became better friends second year and started studying together. One thing led to another, and we were dating by third year, engaged that winter, and married the following summer one week after taking the bar exam (ouch).
After a few years of practicing law at Armstrong, Teasdale, Schlafly & Davis in St. Louis and a stint as a judicial clerk in the United States District Court, I'm working hard as a soccer mom.
My husband Don is an in-house attorney for the Mallinckrodt division of Tyco Healthcare and also spends a great deal of his time as a volunteer coach for our kids' sports teams.
Emma is in 4th grade and Roy is in 2nd grade at a local parochial school. Both are active in sports (soccer, basketball, and softball/baseball) and have lots more skill than their mom ever had, that's for sure!! I'm very proud of them, but I do feel guilty about the "carbon footprint" we're leaving on the Earth with all the driving we have to do to get to games in far-flung areas every weekend!
Little Miss Bea will start preschool next fall, and perhaps I'll be able to start writing the Great American Novel then. ;-) In reality, though, it will probably just mean more driving!
