Today's Featured Biography
Boris Lorkovic
I can't believe it's been over 15 years since we graduated! And I still can't believe it's not butter :)
And, man, I can't believe I used to have a mullet!!! Why didn't anyone tell me how stupid I looked! :p
Quick synopsis of the last 15 years... I realize that it can't be done... we'll have to get together for a coffee :) BUT, I can tell you...
Right now I am an electrical engineer working at Dawson College as a part-time teacher in the Electrotech department (anyone who knew me, knows that teaching was/is my passion... don't ask me why I didn't go into Education??? That's a mystery for the ages). I am also working full-time as the technician for the same department... so I am at least using some of my engineering knowledge. Full-time (non-programming) work has been tough to find here in Montreal (I was unemployed--full-time--for almost four years)... and I can't make myself leave this beautiful city to go to Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, or somewhere in the States, where there is work. Oh, I also work as a manager in a coffee shop (some of our graduating class has met me there). Hey, when you're in debt, unemployed, and have bills to pay and food to put on the table, you WILL work anywhere. But, really, it has been one of my favorite experiences and has given me a lot of invaluable experience, which I intend to apply to my own ventures into the coffee/restaurant business.
Anyway, long-winded as always!
All the tough times don't really bother me, because had I not gone through what I have or had I left Montreal, I may not have married my beautiful wife (we got married May 2002). I may not be an owner of a triplex (we bought it just before the real estate boom). And I would not be where I am today otherwise.
Funny how adversity and tough times tend to mold our characters more than the "good" times. Hope to hear from you all soon!
As my good friend Patrick has already mentioned on the site, I have recently become a dad. WHAT an experience!!! I thought I was going to be one of those guys who faints in the delivery room, but the moment I saw a bit of her head... I couldn't get my eyes off her! Words fail to describe fully the emotions and the love I felt. What a ride!
