Today's Featured Biography
Stefani (Stephanie) Pajeska Watt
In 1979 I finished my studies at QE in January; I married four months later on May 5th, still just 17 years old. I didn't make it to the graduation ceremony. My husband, Barry Smith, didn't feel we could return for my grad ceremony, which I really regret. We had moved to Dawson Creek right after the wedding for his work with BC Tel.
We had our first two children there and I stayed at home with them and volunteered part-time with various community groups. We lived on Bear Mountain and built our dream house but never felt good about living so far away from the coast. It was nearly impossible to transfer back as they wanted to keep their employees where they were needed.
Eventually we moved to Golden BC in 1988. The year later our third and last child was born. When our youngest started kindergarten I attended the College of the Rockies and graduated in 1998. We still pined for the coast and after much wishing and hoping, we did get a transfer. But by then our marriage had folded, sadly. In 2000 I moved to Victoria and Barry moved to Nanaimo.
I attended UVic and spent 6 years studying until graduation.
I remarried in 2005 but very tragically my husband passed away after just 3 months due to a head injury when he fell at his son's house for a Thanksgiving Day dinner.
In 2008 I remarried and have been together with Alastair now for 6 years. We live in Victoria and are both retired. Because of my health I cannot work outside of the home and find it very isolating; also, with my husband now retired, we don't get out much. We try to travel about once a year; otherwise, I like to garden, take daily walks, and read.
In the past, I have never been able to get to any of my reunions with the distance barrier. Sadly I wasn't successful in keeping in touch with any of my friends from QE. I had only been there for the two final years before graduation. Before QE, for grades 8, 9, and 10, I had attended Frank Hurt. Have never kept up with anyone from there either! I'm terrible!!
From QE, I used to know Grace Nicholson, Faith Slipetz, and Holly Morgan. Haven't been able to locate them. Am still happy and hoping to reconnect with anyone from the 1979 QE Grad Class! I now live much closer and can try to get together when reunions are planned.
All the best to you! Thanks for reading :)
