Today's Featured Biography
Barbara Fowler Gum
After leaving Anchorage in 1975, I moved to Rapid City, SD (Elmendorf AFB), where I graduated in 1977. Then moved to Honolulu, HI. Began school at the University of Hawaii; transferred to University of Washington in Seattle, where I earned my BS in Speech Pathology in 1982. Also got married that year to Bennett Gum (9-11-1982...yes, but I had the date first!). Moved back to Hawaii in 1984. Charisa was born in 1986 and Michael in 1988. Spent lots of time at the beach and the zoo!
Moved to Kansas City, MO, for 4 years while Bennett went to Dental School (2nd career). Moved back to Hawaii in 1996. Started working at Barnes & Noble. Took a leave of absence to homeschool my kids. Started back again in 2001 and am now Assistant Manager of the Kahala Mall store.
We are "almost" empty nesters, with Michael in Arizona at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Charisa gone most of the time attending University of Hawaii. We do fun, outside things (hey, it's Hawaii!) like surf, hike and ride our motorcycles. And I hardly ever cook!
