Today's Featured Biography
Toby Fulwiler
After graduating, I somehow managed to earn three degrees at the University of Wisconsin, after which I taught college English for thirty-five years, the last twenty at the University of Vermont. I retired in 2002, writing a number of professional books and articles on teaching writing along the way. The only writing I do these days is keeping a personal journal (not every day) and editing a monthly art gallery newsletter.
Beginning in 2007, I began turning wooden bowls in my home workshop on a Oneway lathe, functional bowls for use as well as artistic bowls for display. Most of my wood comes from our ninety-two acres of mixed hardwoods in Fairfield, VT--usually from sugar maple, black cherry, white ash, & paper birch. My bowls are currently exhibited at a number of Vermont art galleries as well as sold at local craft fairs from summer to winter. While I enjoy a modest supplemental income from this work, it's a good thing I don't need to make a living from it. If curious, see web site, fairfieldfarmbowls.com/ETSY
My wife, Laura, retired from teaching elementary student teachers, also at the University of Vermont, in 2007 and now hooks rugs winters, gardens summers. My oldest daughter Megan (1970), teaches writing at the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY. while my younger daughter, Anna (1974) with husband Tom, son Ben, owns and operates the Old Port Candy Co. in Portland, ME.
Winters I'm cross-country sking with my border collie, Tuck, cutting firewood for our Russian furnace, reading, writing, and turning bowls. Summers I'm traveling to our Upper Peninsula cottage on Little Travese Bay, Lake Superior, usually passing through Wisconsin on the way, as well as riding my motorcyle, walking Tuck, tending tomatoes and peppers in our garden, cutting wood, and turning bowls.
We're all healthy and still reasonably strong, though wishing we had more stamina. I'm looking forward to seeing some of you again after so many years traveling divergent paths.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
