Today's Featured Biography
Paul Darbo
After the USAF, returned home to finish college, working as the night computer operator at the Westgate Bank. Shortly after graduating with a BBA, MIS degree, moved to northern CA with my wife and young daughter.
Worked in Sacramento as computer operator, then in Auburn as programmer operator, then San Jose (1975 to 1990) as Operations Manager (and everything else).
The owner of the first company called and asked me to come back to Sacramento. They won a large contract with the state and didn't know how they were going to fulfill it so I was asked to design, implement and manage a system to adjudicate claims (and other misc items) for the states Beverage Container Recycling Program. We ran that from 1990 to 2013.
In 1992 I built a system to receive, identify, deposit and upload Child Support payments. That system was put in place in 10 CA counties, Clark County NV (80% of the states workload), the states of Washington, Idaho, Oklahoma and Alaska. (The Federal DHHS wrote up the WA implementation and recommended all states follow their lead.) The system was expanded to be a generic document management system and found success in police records (Honolulu, San Francisco, Tucson, Vallejo), CA county welfare case files, county and state child support case files (OK and WA were the largest), and myriad private companies business documents. The system scaled from a single user system to large state wide ones with thousands of users, millions of documents and tens of millions of pages all using the identical software but with larger hardware infrastructures.
I retired in 2018, bought an airplane and have been all over the US since, including to Madison twice. A/O 2025 I'm still flying.
