Roger Reitan
Your Name: ROGER REITAN (nickname “Tex”)
Spouse’s name: Jeanette (Isakson) Reitan
CHILDREN: Kristi Easley, Erik Reitan, Kari Reitan
GRANDCHILDREN: Hannah Sandel, Hayden Sandel, Chandler Easley
Job History: Roger graduated from USF with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting/Business Management May 1964. He then entered Military Service serving overseas Active Duty in Navy Seabees May 1964 thru May 1966. Roger studied accounting in the service and corresponded with Arthur Anderson & Co., a National Certified Public Accounting Firm, interviewed in their corporate offices in New York City (Wall Street) and was hired as a Professional Accountant, and given three choices of where to live anywhere in the world they had offices. Roger received an assignment to their Los Angeles Offices where Roger worked from May 1966-May 1968. Roger applied for a position with the Federal Government. When they called him in for the interview, he noticed his Military Service Supply Officer’s name and stated he worked for him. He then called him into the interview, who gave Roger a glowing recommendation. And Roger was hired as a Professional Accountant into the three year Management Intern Training Program. The first year Roger worked in all 25 sections writing procedures for a Three Star General’s signature. In the second year Roger attended the Executive Management Master's Degree Program at a University full time and graduated. In the third year he demonstrated his technical knowledge (year one) and Management skills (year two) thru practical experience of giving direction to 40 employees as Section Chief. Roger successfully completed the intern program and was promoted into the Career Government Service Program. He was promoted one year later and served as Branch Chief directing 80 employees. About 1 1/2 years later promoted to Division Chief directing 135 employees. Retired at age 55 (31 years Federal service including 2 years active duty Military Service). Due to the draft going on in 1960 Roger joined the Navy at age 17 so he could complete University work uninterrupted receiving deferments and ended up with a dual career in the Navy Seabees service 38 years achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer retiring at age 55.
HIGHLIGHTS: Roger's fiancée, Jeanette (who Roger met in elementary school) graduated from Augustana College 1964 ( Magna Cum Laude) and under a Graduate Assistantship Award, attended graduate school at Kansas State University 1964-66 working on her Master's Degree. Roger & Jeanette were married in June 1965 and celebrated their 50th anniversary in June 2015. His wife taught private elementary school from 1968 until 1996 and then continued working as church organist/secretary and has yet to retire. Roger since retiring has been very active in many civic organizations, church choir, YMCA Indian Guides, Toastmasters, Chief Petty Officer’s Retired Club, Treasurer of Veterans’ Administration Disabled American Veterans Van Nuys, CA., (800 members) Senior Olympics & Golden Age VA Olympics Cycling and Swimming 20 years.
CENTRAL MEMORIES: Meeting my friends at Al’s house (for 3 years) with my 1952 Packard. Special friends and life long memories. Lots of fun!!!
SPECIAL INTERESTS: Senior Olympics Competitions Nationals 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015. Workout gym, pool, track daily team mates and socializing. 2 Gold, 3 Silver medals. Also VA Athletic Golden Age Games for 20 years and 15 Gold & 20 Silver medals swimming & cycling competitions. Lots of fun. Enjoy deer, elk hunting Montana, Wyoming, Colorado. Fishing Alaska.
