Today's Featured Biography
Tom Markos
An interesting journey. Except for bartending and other restaurant work while attending college, never had a "job", always was an independent contractor or had a business.
Had some business ups, had some downs; fortunately a couple more ups than downs.
Moved to Hawaii in 1969; lived in Maui and Kauai for awhile, finally settling in Honolulu on Oahu. Been there ever since.
Two relationship/marital adventures: first 1966-1977, second 1978-2008. Married forever, now single.
Munchkins: All raised in Honolulu.
Brandie (1969) is a certified diver working for an undersea engineering company. Her husband Michael is with the Hawaii Air Guard, served two tours in Afghanistan as a Boeing CH-47 Chinook helicopter pilot. He's also a certified helicopter mechanic.
Brandie's son Christian is 17, an aspiring photographer interning under two Honolulu professionals.
Elan (1974) and wife Marlene waited till 2010 to marry; they have a daughter Lyric and another in the oven due September. Both are in the music business; they've traveled several times to Japan and the Middle East as performers. They moved to La Vegas in 2011 to be closer to music opportunities.
My last business involvement was 1986 thru 2007 as proprietor of Exotic Motorcars, dealing primarily in pre-owned Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar and Porsche. Sold the biz to my key man Dragan Ijacic in 2007. Dragan is like a second son; hired him when he was 18 and a college freshman; he's now in his late 30's.
He renamed the business Auto Connection after his purchase. Although I have no financial interest anymore, I still have a key to the front door and use of office space.
I started martial arts training in 1981. I hold a 5th degree black belt in Heiwado Karate, and a 4th degree black belt in Aikido.
As an avocation, I spend 11 hours weekly in the Dojo, teaching 5 hours and training 6 hours. I've been to Japan four times for additional training.
Over the years I've been fortunate to have visited Greece, Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, Israel, most of Europe, Viet Nam, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Even with the down times, life has been pretty good. I'm looking forward to this reunion...
