1/29/2008 ********************* 2008 SUMMER COOKOUT*********
Hello classmates!!! Have you all missed me???
We thought since the reunion was such a blast and it was nice to see everyone, having some fun in the sun would be just as fun.
I'm think

Kids:
Miles, age 7, in first grade at Argyle
Anna, age 5, in Kindergarten at Argyle
Current occupation: I left my good stay-at-home Mom job in January 2006 to be the Community Resource Development Educator for UW Extension in Lafayette County (office under the jail)
Hobbies and how they’ve changed: I recently walked into an REI store in Madison. Memories came rushing back…oh yeah, I was once an REI member. I once bought these hiker/biker/paddler clothes and accessories. Miles and Anna have certainly changed our lives, but we certainly wouldn’t trade these experiences (and new hobbies like the finer points of coloring, working with Play Doh, making good truck noises, etc.).
When Dave and I got married, we discussed how many kids we would try to have. Dave said that he’d really like to have enough for a family Bluegrass band. (Dave plays guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, dobro – anything with strings.) He said a Bluegrass band requires four players minimum. I told him I’d take up an instrument. Now that the kids are getting older, Dave “called my bluff” so to speak and questioned which instrument I would play in our Bluegrass band. I picked bass. (Some of you may remember that I chose flute in grade school mainly because it was the smallest instrument and would fit in my backpack. Now I have a very large, heavy instrument to lug around.) So, Dave has been teaching me how to play upright bass since June this year. We have two other players in our band (until Miles and Anna decide they might want to join): Mike “Hammer” Crist on guitar and vocals and Barb Nemec on banjo. We’re called the High Hedge Bluegrass Band. We’ve had a couple of “gigs,” and have a list of more than 60 songs we can play (with Dave adding more every day). We play “straight ahead Bluegrass,” which includes songs from Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers, Jim and Jesse McReynolds, to name a few. My difficulty is trying to play and sing at the same time. It has been a lot of fun learning something new and constantly trying to improve.
Thoughts: If you don’t already live here, have you ever considered moving back to Lafayette County? It has been a wonderful experience for us. The best part, of course, is being 3 miles from Grandpa and Grandma. But we’ve also confirmed something I already knew – Lafayette County is a great place to live. If you’ve got a few days to spend, check out the price of a nice house. If you haven’t taken a stroll down the main streets of Darlington or Shullsburg since high school, you are in for a pleasant surprise. No need to go anywhere else for your Christmas shopping!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
