Today's Featured Biography
Greg Hurn
After graduating from Tenino High School in 1965, I received my AA degree from Centralia Community College in 1967. I then transferred to Central Washington and graduated in 1969. Now it was time to find a teaching job. I interviewed at Mabton and was offered the job on the spot. I went home first and talked to Mr. Willams and asked him what he though of the opportunity I had. He said that I had better take the job while it is open. One additional condition was necessary for me to get the job. The superintendent said do you want to coach wrestling or baseball. Of course I choose baseball. It least I had played baseball and knew a little about what I was getting into. This started a odessey of 25 years of coaching. I never went into education with idea of being a coach. In addition to coaching baseball, I was hired to teach chemistry, physics and mathematics. It was pretty brutal for the first couple of years. In 1973, I purchased a home that we still live in.
In 1975 I married my next door neighbor Ana. We have two children but no grand children We still have hopes for our Valentine baby David. After a 30 years career which was very rewarding I retired from the Mabton School District. My first year of retirement, I spent writing 6 semester of classes for an internet company. They are still out in the ether somewhere. I did substitute for a coumple of years after that but soon found out that it wasn't for me. In the mean time a local farmer offered me a job running his mint still and weighing out his corn silage. I have been doing that on a part time basis for at least the last 10 years. I am a past city council member, and am surrently the chairperson of Mabton Planning Commission and the Treasurer of Mabton Dollars for Scholars. Ana (para-professional) and I still live in the same house and enjoy going to basketball games in Mabton. We love our regular trips to Puerto Vallarta. I read a lot and work outside in our multiple flower gardens. For exercise, when I am not working, I walk 4 miles a day at the High School track.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
