SHARON SWIGART BETHEL

After graduating from high school, I attended the Univeraity of Washington froom 1972 to 1977. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the UW School of Dental Hygiene with honors. I worked full-time for over 30 years until health issues associated with the profession forced me into early retirement a few years ago. Since that time, I have enjoyed being a full-time MOM and house-wife (domestic engineer). I ended up marrying a dentist (the one for whom I was working since graduating from college) in 1988. (Never marry the boss!) We were blessed with three beautiful children--all boys who are the light of my life. Nathaniel Robert Bethel was born January 25,1989. He attended Eastside Catholic High School and is presently in his 5th year at the University of Washington, pursuing a graduate degree/career in biology. My second son, Nicholas William Bethel, was born on November 8, 1991. He was the athlete of the family and excelled in sports of all types--baseball being his true love. His ambition was to become a fire-fighter and to marry his high school sweetheart. Tragically, however, Nicholas passed away quite unexpectedly/suddenly at the tender age of 17. The loss of my beloved son is a tragedy from which I will never get over, let alone understand. I was diagnosed with stage II malignant melanoma in 1994. Against medical advice, six months after the devastating diagnosis, I became pregnant with our third son, Justin Chandler Bethel. He WAS BORN ON APRIL 12 1995. I'm sure that he is the reason I was able to find the strength and courage to fight the disease. I did suffer a recurrence of the cancer in 1998; however,to date I have remained cancer-free for 14 years. Justin IS PRESENTLY A JUNIOR AT ISSAQUAH HIGH SCHOOL WHERE HE IS EXCELLING IN AP CLASSES. He volunteers in the community WHILE KEEPING UP AN ACTIVE SOCIAL LIFE AND PARTICIPATING IN A NUMBER OF EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. Unfortuantely, although my husband & I have maintained a relationship for over 35 years, we divorced in the year 2002. Upon the death of our son, we reconciled for the sake of our other two boys and have been living together in the family home together ever since. We recently welcomed a new member to our family--MOLLY ANN--a sweet little Shih TZU puppy who hass done much in helping us heal as a family since the loss of Nicholas. So for now, I enjoy and treasure the time I have to spend being a full-time man and house-wife, trying to figure out what I am going to do when I grow up.
