60 Year Reunion Announcement!
2020 Reunion to be Postponed |
|
As you know, a group of our classmates has been planning a 60-year Class of 1960 reunion for September 12. But coronavirus and Covid-19 are now predicted to be around for several more months and people of our age are especially vulnerable.
After consulting with a number of classmates the committee has reluctantly decided that it’s not wise or practical to hold a reunion this year. In addition to the obvious health concerns, practical considerations include: How many out-of-town classmates would feel safe to travel? Will there still be a limit on the size of gatherings in September? Masks and social distancing seem likely to still be recommended or required – how many classmates would come to a reunion that required masks (or that did not require masks)? And what restrictions might venues be required to place on any gathering.
The committee expects to meet again in the future to consider a delayed reunion date in 2021. |

7/21/15:
I would love to be able to attend the 55th year reunion on 8/22 & 23, but school starts on 8/24 here and I have to get ready for my 20 tutoring students. I've been tutoring for 36 years and I don't plan to stop.
Laurie and I will be up in Seattle on Sept 10 to visit brothers Dan in Tacoma and Jack on Bainbridge Island, and then visit daughter Lana in Wenatchee. Lana's oldest son (12) will be ordained a Deacon on Sept 13 - an important milestone in the LDS faith.
My mother died in 2006 so we only come up once a year now, and always enjoy it. I miss the mild summers, compared to Austin, although this summer's highs in the 80s to 93 range are not so bad, actually comfy - until this week's 97. But the great winters help make up for the summer heat.
My wife Laurie is an awesome gardener -- 2,500 peaches this year, and tomatoes, zucchini, bell peppers, broccoli, cantaloupe, onions, asparagus.
We live 15 miles west of Austin on 51 acres with two wet creeks running for 6 months, and it's total quiet at night.
I will never stop working as long the kids I tutor are as smart and hard working. Most of them attend an expensive and exclusive private school. This year two of my seniors are going to Stanford and one each to Duke, UCSD, UVA, Cornell, and Washington & Lee. I'm happy for them but sad to see them go.
My email address is [email protected], which should last as long as I do. BHS was a great school. I love and miss Miss Hardy.
I'm writing an autobiography of my first 26 years for my 5 kids, 10 grandkids, and future great-grandkids. So far I have written 70,000 words and I'm almost done. It's interesting and fun, and when "you think you're done, you think of something else to add".
Give my best to all. If you do something before our 60th let me know and we can fly to Seattle non-stop on Alaska --- so easy.
Thanks again.

I had spent over 25 years at IBM with great retirement package and "forever" health insurance for my wife and me. YEAH!
I am still a private math tutor in my 38th year; still love it although I have reduced my load to 3 days/week so I have time to read great books, continue my genealogical research, write in my journal and my autobiography. I need to record for my children, grandchildren and beyond so they will know of the miracle of my conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over 50 years ago. It forever changed my life by making me aware of "Where I came from, Why I am here, and Where am I going?" I continue to study and serve The Lord with all my strength.
Laurie and I went to Norway and Czech Republic last year visiting family and friends and finding genealogical treasures. In CZ we used PAPER maps and Garmin to navigate the tiny roads with many side roads to find our way to small villages and cemeteries. A highlight was in meeting some families in a village where a 60-year old woman told us (through an interpreter) that we were the first Americans she had ever met. WOW, an eye-opener. Norway = very expensive, CZ = very inexpensive.
Although we have both had cancer, we were blessed with an amazing doctor and are "free". Other than that minor detail were are both very healthy and strong and walk the 3-mile round trip to the end of our private road.
This has been an unbelievably gorgeous winter with most days in the mild 70's and 80's. Only one evening of 23F. We plan to remain forever on our very quiet (no road or lawn equipment sounds) ranch and watch the creeks flow from our porch.
We much enjoyed the mini-reunion last summer. Love to all, Brian and Laurie
