Today's Featured Biography
Rheta McKay Fell
Rheta McKay was born in the US Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia. Her father was a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy at the time of her birth. She was the second of four daughters. She grew up in the Wedgewood area of Norfolk, Virginia, just off East Little Creek Road. She attended neighborhood public schools and graduated in 1968 from Norview High School in Norfolk.
When Rheta was sixteen she was discovered by local newspaper photographers because she resembled a popular British teenage fashion model named "Twiggy" (because she was so thin). Rheta had short, blonde hair, like Twiggy, and was tall like fashion models (5"-9"). She was a very pretty teenager and appeared in many local fashion magazines and newspaper and magazine advertisements. Thus began her career as a fashion model. She continued working part-time as a model in her late teens and early twenties, graduating from the John Robert Powers School of Modeling in Virginia Beach in 1971 and Charm, Associates in Norfolk in 1972.
Through these modeling agencies, and through her independent modeling, Rheta quickly became the top fashion model in the Tidewater area, even appearing on television shows and in the 1972 Miss Norfolk-USA Pageant, where she won third place. After her marriage, and even after the birth of her sons, Rheta continued to pursue her modeling career and continued to be in demand for advertisments, fashion shows and television modeling. She was often asked to teach young women groups about make-up, skin care, clothing, and other items of intrest to young women.
In her mid-forties, but still looking like a teenager, Rheta had all but quit her modeling career, and concentrated on taking care of her family, her friends, and doing her Church and community work.
Unlike most women of her age group, Rheta did not have to work continuously to earn a living, and has been able to devote most of her time to caring for those she loves and doing things she enjoys, like working in her yard and garden, keeping her home beautiful, filling leadership positions in her Church callings, and just helping other people.
Rheta always has an uplifting personality, and wherever she goes she is an encouragment to others. She is well-loved and amired, especially by those who have the privelege to get to know her or be around her. Rheta has a wonderful spirit and always tries to find the good in people and encourage them to be more outgoing and to participate in life.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
