Edward Doty (Name also spelled: Dotey, Doten, Dotten, Dowty and Dowtie.)
b. May 14, 1598 - East Haldon, Lincolnshire, England
d. Aug. 23, 1655 - Barnstable, Plymouth Colony, New England
September 6, 1620 - emigrated from Southhampton England as an indentured servant of
Stephan Hopkins and served until 1627. Hopkins was a tanner, or leather maker. In this
case, Doty was probably a workman, or apprentice.
November 11, 1620 - Reached Cape Cod, MA. He was one of the signers of "Mayflower
Compact" in preparation to disembark.

In ye name of God, Amen.--We whofe names are underwrtitten, the loyall subjects of our
dread and foveraigne Lord, King James, by ye grace of God, of Great Britaine, France, &

advancemente of ye Christian faith, and honour to our king and countrie, a voyage to
plant ye first colonie in ye Northerne parts of Virginia, doe by thefe prefents solemnly and
mutually in ye prefense of God, and one of another, covenant and combine ourfelves
togeather into a civill body politick, for our better ordering & prefervation & furtherance of
ye ends aforesaid; and by vertue hearof to enacte, conftitute, and frame fuch just equall
lawes, ordinances, Acts, conftitutions, & offices from time to time, as fhall be thought most

November 15 & Dec. 6-11, 1620 - As a member of exploration parties to go ashore in
Plymouth Harbor , Massachusetts, Edward Doty was one of the 21 men of the 50 male
passengers to survive the first winter 1620/21 in Plymouth Colony.
