After high school graduation, I spent the summer working at the Feed Store in Narrows. That Fall, I attended Roanoke Technical Institute (VaTech - GO TECH!), graduating in 1966 with an Associate Degree in mechanical engineering. After that, I began working at Space Conditioning in Harrisonburg, VA, until 1967. Then, I began working at Westvaco Paper Research Center in Covington, VA. I met my wife Karen in 1968 and we married on January 4, 1969, and lived in Covington. In 1970, I transferred to Westvaco Fine Papers in Wickliffe, KY, and we moved to Paducah, KY. We had three children (two sons died at birth) and a daughter Jacqueline Jeanette. I then transferred to Westvaco's Chemical Division as sales representative. In 1981, we moved back to Covington, VA, calling primarily on Westvaco Paper Mills. In 1986, we moved to Midlothian, VA, with an expansion of my territory from Virginia to Texas. In 1987, I started working at Omya Corporation out of Proctor, VT, selling ground calcium carbonate used in paper making. Omya's home office was in Switzerland and I made occasional visits there and to France, Germany, and Japan. Thereafter, I had various jobs that contributed to residing in South Carolina and Florida. In 1992, Omya down-sized and I began working for Bass Flowers. In 1994, I started working at Lowes in Gainesville and Palatka, FL, in various positions and retired in 2012. I have survived cancer, stroke, heel fracture, vertebral fracture, and other conditions requiring hospitalization. I enjoy hunting, fishing, and competitive skeet shooting (state champion twice in KY and twice in FL). I live twenty minutes from Rodman Reservoir and ten minutes from the St. Johns River in Hollister, FL. My wife of forty-seven years, Karen, is my personal chauffeur, financial agent, nurse, and chef. We have two dachshunds, Gretchen and Bridgett. Our daughter served in the Navy for four years and was posted in Iwakuni, Japan - and we visited her there. She is married to Ken, a Navy retiree - and they have two daughters - Savannah and Grace. I surely miss the mountains of Virginia and her different kinds of people - compared to flat-landers!
