Sharla Styles Kirk

During High School I married Jerry Styles. Jerry and I were married for three years and then divorced. I worked as a clerk for 7-11 stores for a few years, as well I worked as a certified nurses's aide for a few years and an assistant manager of a convenience store. I decided to attend college and entered VCU in 1982, graduating in May of 1986 with a Bachelor of Social Work degree. I obtained my first social work job in Oct of 1986 with Caroline County. I stayed there one year and then applied and received my second social work job with the Hopewell Dept. of Social Services. I stayed with them ten years and then accepted my last position with the Prince George County Dept. of Social Services. I was taken out of work on a medical disability in April of 2007 after ten years of service with Prince George. I was, for my entire social work career, a child protective services social worker, as well as a foster care social worker. I married my current spouse, wonderful as he is, on Dec. 31, 1991. We have no birth children, however we did raise my niece and nephew and they are grown with their own families and interests now. My niece has two children, ages 4 years and 1 year and they are the lights of my life! I attend Church of the Sacred Heart on RT 460 in Prince George Catholic and am very active there. My faith is very important to me and is what has been a sustaining factor in my life. My husband is a supervisor with the City of Richmond, Public Utilities Dept. And that's kind of where I've been the last 35 years!
