      Today's Featured Biography

	April Kay Hochstrasser

April Hochstrasser got her B. A. in Speech and Drama at BYU and went on for a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology at the University of Utah, and then got her Ph.D. in Communication from Fairfax University. She moved to Tacoma in 1978 with her husband, Gary, who had his own architectural firm in University Place. April has worked at a speech pathologist for over 40 years. She is still working in the Yelm, WA. School District, even though she could have retired. She works because she loves her job!
April's five children are: Mikaela Griggs, a HS history teacher, living in Georgia, Jason Hochstrasser, an anesthesiologist, living in Edgewood, WA., Ryan Hochstrasser, a health apparatus designer, living in Hyrum, UT., Angela Gomillion, an administrative assistant, working at the VA hospital and living in University Place, and Jordan Hochstrasser, an accountant, living in Lehi, UT. April has 16 grandchildren with one on the way, yay, Jason and Katie!

April's hobbies are: music, (piano, organ, flute, singing, and conducting), reading (up to a book a day in the summer), coloring mandalas, gourmet cooking, and tennis, which she has played 2-3 times a week for over 20 years.

Her husband has had three strokes, and the last one left him in a wheelchair with right side paralysis. He needs help with some everyday personal care but can mostly take care of himself. She has learned some new skills such as putting in baseboard, re-caulking sinks and flattening cupped hardwood flooring that was damaged due to a pipe leak.

April is currently the choir director, organist, and teaches the Valiant 8 Primary class. Her favorite quote that is embroidered on a hat is: "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without."
