Today's Featured Biography
Matthew Madden
After graduation I served an LDS mission in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Afterwards I went to college at BYU and studied Economics. I spent more time in Cambodia during my time off school, doing various volunteer work and interning in the LDS mission office as a translator. I met my wife Kim during one of these stays. Kim is from Vietnam, but she grew up in Cambodia. We speak Cambodian (Khmer) at home. After working a lack-luster job for a year in Salt Lake City, I went back to school to get another degree in Linguistics - my true passion. When I finished we moved to Oceanside, CA where I have been working as a contract Cambodian court interpreter in San Diego and sometimes Los Angeles counties, as well as a host of other independant contract interpreting and translation work. I had been doing contract translation work on the side to get through school for years, but now I do it full time. Being my own boss has had its ups and downs. But my latest news is that I have just been hired to work for the LDS Church's curriculum department in Salt Lake City as a Linguist. I will be working on creating hyphenators, spell-checkers, and Unicode fonts for the newer, non-roman languages that the Church publishes in. We will be moving to Salt Lake to start my new job at the beginning of July 2006.
