Today's Featured Biography
Linda Mireles Heinz
I can't believe that it has been 50 years since we graduated from high school. I attended Southwest Texas Junior College and left Uvalde the day after graduation. I packed everything that I owned into the back seat of my 1955 red and white Chevy that my father had given me. How I wish I still had that car. It was stolen in San Antonio but that is another story. In San Antonio, I started my Civil Service career.
From Texas, I went to Germany and there I met my current husband, Wally. I finished the course work for a bachelor's degree in Germany and graduated from the University of Maryland. We celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary in January. We have two sons, Christopher and Brandon, who are the love of our lives and we have two beautiful grandchildren, Alaina and Kyle. They live in KS so we don't see them as much as we would like.
I retired two years ago from Civil Service as a software tester. Talk about upward mobility; I started my government career cleaning an airplane part, a job that lasted four days. I worked for 13 years, stayed home with my children for 18 years and then went back to work as a computer programmer. I was hired back for Y2K as a COBOL programmer. Talk about luck in getting hired after a hiatus of 18 years in the computer field. I worked for another 12 years and now here I am retired with a lifetime annuity.
My husband is still working as a military business developer for a construction company and travels almost every week. We try to find time to travel and have fun; our last big trip was a 21-day cruise to the Antarctic. That cruise was absolutely breathtaking. This year's big trip consists of several trips to Winter Park, CO (about an hour from our house in Lakewood, CO) to coordinate the remodel of the kitchen in our 40-year-old condo that still has the original cabinets. After it is finished, plan on a trip to Colorado and stay at our condo. It is about an hour and a half from Denver.
I had plans to attend the reunion but will not be able to make it. I look forward to seeing the pictures and hearing about it. I wish everybody lots of fun times and a memorable reunion. Let's do this every five years from now on. I will be glad to help coordinate the reunions if there is enough interest. We could have them at different venues.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
