Gary Luedecke
I moved to Austin, TX in 1979 to pursue the music business as an audio engineer. It worked out. I worked at most of the legendary music venues in Austin during the 80's and 90's and worked in a recording studio for a while. I have toured with Ray Price, Brothers Johnson, Sister Sledge, The SOS Band, Maze, Morris Day, Mickey Gilley, The B-52's, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Joe "King" Carrasco (look for me in the "Party Weekend" video), Russ Taff/Phil Keaggy, Talking Heads, Asleep At The Wheel, D-Day, Del Castillo, Ozomatli, Styx, Alejandro Escovedo, The Dixie Chicks, Bob Schneider, Joe Ely, The Flatlanders and others.
I've done shows with Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt, Merle Haggard, Los Lonely Boys, James Brown, The Zombies, Robert Rodriguez and Chingon, Bruce Willis Blues Band, Stephen Stills, Chuck Berry, XTC, Squeeze, Spirit, The Byrds, Country Joe and The Fish, Arlo Guthrie, The Outfield, Joan Jett, Los Lobos, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Three Dog Night, Whitney Houston and many, many more. I have traveled all over the world from Canada, Europe, Scandinavia, Africa, Central America, New Zealand, South Pacific and the Indian Ocean.
I've met, hung out and partied with rock stars, movie stars and celebrities. Now I can say I personally know the Mayor of Galveston. There is way too much more to put here and no doubt I've had a pretty exciting life. Lots of people have encouraged me to write a book.
Now I have an 8 to 5 job at the City of Austin as an audio engineer and I get to lay my head on my own pillow every night. I have a wonderful partner, Molly. We have been together almost 11 years. We own a wine bar and vintage furniture store in Elgin, Texas and we come down to Galveston on long weekends to stay in our little house we bought right after Hurricane Ike. We love visiting during Mardi Gras and 4th of July, riding our bikes on the seawall and of course I still surf whenever I can.
UPDATE: Just retired recently from the City of Austin after 15 years but still provid live audio and recording services in and around the Elgin area. Molly and I just recently celebrated 20 years together.
