Like many of you, Edcouch-Elsa will always remain as home regardless where we live. In 2004, after a second attempt to move and remain "back home", I bought a little place on Delta Lake, purchased the old Phillips 66 gas station on the corner of highways 107 and 88, and went to work for a small engineering firm. Life moves quickly, though. Within months I had decided to sell my business and purchase a larger piece of commercial property for development along Highway 107, to leave my job and to pursue my hope for public office. So, after months of intense labor, a small fortune, and all the wrong decisions: I lost my bid for Hidalgo County Clerk, had to rebuild my businesses without the resources lost to my campaign and had to return to work. It was a great experience and have now started again with a new job, greater business prospects and a greater voter base for the next time around!

Over the last two decades I lived in Austin, TX; Albuquerque, NM; Ft. Leonardwood, MO; Ft. Polk, LA; Portland, TX; Victoria, TX; Midland, TX and Hobbs, NM where I currently live temporarily and work for Baker Hughes, Inc. as a Petroleum Engineer. I worked as a Civil Engineer designing roads and bridges in Central America after Hurricane Mitch; served as a soldier in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant; toured the country as a National Make-up Artist and did Margie Villarreal's make-up on her wedding day; worked as a professional actor with over 70 credits in film, print and commercial television and last filmed in February 2005 a Telenovela titled "La Ley del Silencio"; taught acting, modeling and presentational skills to kids ages 3 to 73; served as City Commissioner, Municipal Judge and Mayor of Edcouch and bust my ass everyday as the current owner of several successful and not-so-successful businesses in the retail, automotive, insurance, entertainment, and production industries having produced the last Chippendales show in the Valley, Laredo and Corpus Christi in 2005 under our production company, Se Habla Productions.

History seems to show and prove that our class, the Class of 83, is something quite special. So often I hear of the great contributions that my classmates have made to our community. I hope to return quickly with the hope that, by sharing my experiences (as a survivor of a three year bout with cancer at the age of twenty five, a father of three bright and wonderful children, a perpetual student with two and a half degrees, a business owner, a public servant and a worker with a diverse set of job skills)with the people that I grew up with and trusted, I can form working alliances with those interested in building and rebuilding...home.
