Mary Ann Meyer Martin

I attended the University of Texas at Austin for two years, studying Business Administration, Secretarial Studies. In September, 1961, I married Russell Martin. I was employed by the State of Texas and then by Capital National Bank.

Vacations with our three children over the years were visits to southwest Virginia where Russell was born and grew up. The children and I loved the mountains, and would often ask Russell to move to Virginia. Well, in 1990, that dream came true! I still love these mountains here in Virginia, and don't plan to live anywhere else until my Lord calls me home!

When we moved here, we bought a 1910 Victorian home that we restored. It was there we lived and I was the innkeeper for our Bed and Breakfast Inn until a horrific electrical storm destroyed it in 1996. Being an innkeeper was certainly a "job of a lifetime for me".....I loved it, and enjoyed having guests from many, many places! I also worked three seasons as manager of the Hungry Mother State Park Restaurant in nearby Marion, Virginia. Now, I am enjoying being retired!

Russell and I are very active members of Berean Baptist Church in Glade Spring, VA, where Russell was born. I was saved in 1964 and Russell rededicated his life at that time. We both sing in our church choir, and I'm the Minister of Records (Church Clerk), Historian and Photographer.

We both love to travel, and that's a good thing, since Rusty, his wife and our twin granddaughters live in west Texas; Melanie and her husband live in Knoxville, TN (just 2 1/2 hours away); and Eric, his wife and their three children recently were transferred with their jobs to Florida. We plan our first trip there for Thanksgiving this year! Besides west Texas, we go to Austin as often as possible since my mom and four of my siblings (all six of us are still living!) are there. Joanie, who graduated from McCallum in 1957 lives in Santiago, Chile.

In August, 2007, we had a "trip of a lifetime" to Europe, where we stayed with German friends. The four of us traveled through Germany, and also visited France, Switzerland, Italy and Austria.

Our five grandchildren are the joys of our lives! This coming May, we'll be in Texas for the twins' high school graduation...fifty years after my graduation! Eric's children are seven, six and two.

My hobbies mainly are scrapbooking, making greeting cards and flower gardening. And, I take LOTS of pictures!

Lord willing, we'll be in Austin for the 50th reunion, and look forward to seeing y'all there!
