Today's Featured Biography
Mary Metz Sewell
I worked for many years as a bookkeeper for various companies in Waco and worked for the last 10 years at the same church where we are members-Central United Methodist Church, doing all the bookkeeping for what is quickly becoming a large church, having merged from 3 United Methodist churches. I am now "fully" retired, "only" going in on Mondays to help out with computer entry of contributions and making the deposits (on a volunteer basis). I am one of those silly people who really loved working, once I discovered what that should be (bookkeeping). When I first began working after 2 1/2 years at UT (hook 'em), where I majored in Sociology, I was fully intending to go into social work specializing in child welfare. It quickly became apparent that was not where my talents lay. I found I really loved being a "bean counter" and that is what I've done (what used to be called full charge bookkeeping) for all these years.
Earl and I celebrated 49 years of marriage in October. I find it almost impossible to believe that it has been almost 50 years since we graduated! I'm looking forward to renewing acquaintances at our reunion.
Since retiring, I have thought of all these great plans for various pursuits, like taking up bird-watching, getting back to square dancing, getting back to writing (I had two small articles published in two different magazines some years back -- no, not Reader's Digest), catching up on reading that has been piling up, and of course some traveling. So far, I have only done a lot of catching up on sleep, working out at the Y, and singing with our church choir, but I'll get there. Earl and I also enjoy attending various sports activities of our twin 15 year old grandchildren. Our oldest granddaughter is in college in Dallas.
I have really enjoyed the class website; it is great to read about what all of you have been up to all these years, and I'm anxious to see you again at the reunion in April.
To update this (5 years later), our oldest granddaughter is now in San Antonio working as a physical therapist for which she got her doctor of phys. therapy degree.
The twins (boy and girl) are juniors at A&M now (yes, really!); I've had to "modify" my opinion of the Aggies in the last several years! :-) We are so proud of all our grandchildren, as well as our children - the lights of our lives.
To update this March 2022, I have been widowed for over 4 years now having lost my sweet husband Earl December 30, 2017. I still miss him daily but I have remained active in my church and sing with our Chancel Choir. Prior to Covid I was doing water aerobics but due to a couple of chronic health issues have had to stop that until the Covid numbers decrease some more. Other than this I enjoy reading, Sudoku, jumbles and cryptoquips. Also some TV, mostly Netflix series and some movies. Looking forward to the Zoom reunion in the works.
Update December 2022, I now have two sweet great granddaughters, one, Mackenzie, is my grandson Jonathan’s and his wife Emily’s. The younger one, Maya, is my older granddaughter Jessica’s and her wife Natalie’s. I don’t get to see them nearly often enough but the granddaughter keep me provided with lots of pictures. They live in San Antonio and Houston. I did get to be with the San Antonio bunch on Maya’s 1st birthday, a fun time. She’s now 18 months old and Mackenzie will be 3 years old in March.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
