Today's Featured Biography
Jeani Miller Smith
In October 1955 (10th grade)my family moved to Puerto Rico, Dad was in the military - Communications Officer for 2nd Air Force (SAC). In 1958 I graduated from the American High School (Ramey AFB High School) in Puerto Rico. From there I lived in Ohio; Mississippi; South Dakota; and ultimately back to Austin where Mom & Dad had retired. Austin was always my favorite place to live so I was delighted to get back 'home'. I have been living here since 1969.
John and I have two sons, Steve and Roy. They have given us three terrfic grandchildren - Steve's Josh (Nov 9, 1986) and Brittany Jean (Aug 9, 1989; Roy's Talon (May 10, 1995). Steve is an attorney in Salt Lake City, Utah and Roy is in the security/cable business in Colorado Springs, Colorado and is a custom woodworker.
We belong to Bethany Lutheran Church on Slaughter Lane.
Retirement for John and me has been wonderful, allowing us to travel; go hiking; biking; play tennis; do lots of volunteer work; go to museums; enjoy our grandchildren and go to school. I don't think we have missed a semester since college. We enjoy classes from many sources - UT; UT Informal Classes; UT Alumni Center; Lifetime Learning and all the many private opportunities living in Austin affords us.
We are involved with several community organizations: the Austin Symphony Orchestra where I am on the Executive Board; Dell Children's Hospital Grandparents Club; Women's Symphony League of Austin; DAR - Thankful Hubbard Chapter; I am a Docent for the Governor's Mansion; UDC - Albert Sidney Johnston Chapter; ROWC. John is a Phi Beta Kappa from UT, we both bleed orange and belong to the UT Foundation and the Texas Exs, of course we never miss a home football game.
(My sister Bette Miller Estis graduated from McCallum HS 1961/my sister-in-law Barbara Wright Miller graduated from McCallum HS 1956)
