It’s was our 55th Year Reunion, August 11, 2018. A lot has happened to all of us through the years, college, marriage, divorce, babies, job changes, moving, travel, sickness, good health, laughter, sadness and good times! This was a night to remember the “Way We Were” in 1959 when we started Hillsboro. The 5’O Clock Hop and American Bandstand were on TV. Fraternities and Sororities were rushing, Nic Varallo’s Drive-In was packed every weekend. Dances at the Chicken Coup on Highway 70, Willow Plunge in Franklin and Donelson Teen Town were going strong. In 1963 we all went our separate ways, some to college, some to war, some to work, some moved away, and some stayed home. In all, what a lifetime of memories… Set your calendar for our 60th in August 2023…hopefully? Bill

Today's Featured Biography

Earl Henry

Married for four years to Marilyn Northcutt Henry, who grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and who is a retired school principal in Memphis. I earned a BA degree from Vanderbilt and an MBA from Washington University. I was a lieutenant for 2 years in the U.S. Army. I worked for First American National Bank for 29 years in a variety of finance/accounting type positions until I retired in 2000. I served as president of the Nashville Downtown
Civitan Club in 1985-1986. As a hobby I have carved approximately 75 ice carvings including two that were for our class’s 10 year reunion. Current hobbies include ballroom dancing and S-Scale model railroading. I would like my classmates to know of my activities to memorialize and promote the legacy of my father, Lt. Commander Earl O. Henry, who perished in the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. I know much more about him today than I did while I was a student at Hillsboro. He was an extraordinarily gifted artist, taxidermist, ornithologist, and dentist. Starting in 1992, my mother and I began publishing his paintings and currently 20 of
them are available as frameable prints and note cards. I present programs about my father to civic, veterans, garden, nature groups (any group that will listen to me). I have made numerous presentations in Indiana to promote the USS Indianapolis Memorial Museum which was finally opened last summer. American Legion Magazine included a full page article about my father in its November 2005 issue, based on a presentation I gave at the 60 year reunion of survivors. My father’s story has also been featured on public television’s Tennessee Crossroads and on WBIR TV in Knoxville. You can view much of his artwork at www.earlhenrybirdprints.com, and see videos on the History Page of this website.

I am an active member at West End United Methodist Church.

I am membership chair of the Nashville Chapter of TOS (Tennessee Ornithological Society.

I am also a volunteer membership recruiter for the L&N Historical Society.
