Today's Featured Biography
AnnaJo Shelton
Worked in scientific and technical publications field of publishing, first at Reel & Slusser (6-1/2 years) and then at Publications Division (and many subsequent name changes), Oak Ridge National Laboratory, for almost 23 years, ending as section head managing Central Publications Office. I took early retirement at age 50 (in one of those wonderful VRIFs the Dept. of Energy occasionally offers) and have been, as the song says, "loving every minute of it." I am completely out of touch locally--almost never read a newspaper--and have not kept up with any 1964 classmates (since the 1974 10-year reunion when I was on the organizing committee). I generally read Discover and National Geographic, watch a lot of PBS, and communicate with some out of state family via Facebook [especially, my great-niece (to whom I am godmother) and I enjoy competing in FarmVille, Zoo, and PetVille--don't laugh; try it :)]. Besides two herniated disks in my lower back (which began bothering me about three months before I retired--wouldn't you know it?), I haven't had any major health problems (knock wood), but as they say, who knows what tomorrow will bring? My 7th-year quit-smoking anniversary will be in January 2011 (after about 45 years!); for anyone interested, there is a retired Marine Cpt. (who served as a nurse-anaesthetist and hypnotherapist) in Oak Ridge who helped me quit in one 2-h session.
