Today's Featured Biography
Michelle Eckard Mantooth
After high school, I attended the University of Tennessee at Martin and at Chattanooga. Chris, a 1986 BCHS graduate, and I were married in 1987 and the Navy moved us to New York, San Diego, and eventually to Charleston, SC. I completed my bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science at MUSC in 1990 and went to work in the laboratory there. I went back for my master's in health professions education and completed my specialty in cytogenetics (chromosomes) and molecular diagnostics. I have been working in client support and facilitating MD research in relation to genetic testing for clinical diagnostic and treatment purposes for the past 5 years. I have been looking for almost 10 years for a teaching position in the clinical laboratory field, and Wednesday I was offered a job at Trident Technical College here in Charleston, SC where I will be teaching clinical chemistry and microbiology to clinical laboratory technology students. I am the Bible Drill Director for the Screven Association of the South Carolina Southern Baptist Convention, teach 5th graders in Sunday School at Old Fort Baptist Church, lead children's and youth Bible Drill at OFBC, am the Past President and PACE Coordinator for the South Carolina Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, and the chair of two major continuing education symposia coming up next year for laboratorians. Chris and I have two cats and our backyard has a fully stocked pond where we go fishing when he's not out installing computer networks in drinking water, waste water, and environmental labs. If you come to Charleston, look us up.
