Jeff McClaren

What a sweet ride it has been. Married to a wonderful women who thinks I am a keeper. We were married in Lake Havasu City AZ in 1993. She brought Jeremy a diesel mechanic who lives in Casper WY and Kimberly who lives in Robbins NC into my life from a previous marriage. My daughter Emily lives in Apache Junction AZ and is in sales and my son Quinn lives in Glendale AZ and is still trying to figure out what he wants to be when he grows up. Just like his Dad. My wife Karen works at the Bell Nob Golf Course here in Gillette. I am currently the Safety/Risk Manager for the Campbell County School District. The district has 1200 employees and 8300 students and it is my job to ensure their safety. It is a good gig that I just started in September of 2010. Prior to this I was the Safety Supervisor for Rawhide Mine an open pit coal mine located north of Gillette. How I ever got involved in the safety business is still a mystery to me.
The only addiction I have left is golf and that is why my wife works at the course.
I have been clean and sober since July of 1982. Woke up one morning in the Hot Springs jail and my daughter was a month old and I did not think it was appropriate for a new father to act in such a manner so I took off for Northern State in Aberdeen SD and became a school teacher. Teaching was an enjoyable experience for me and I received many paybacks from my days as misguided youth in the Custer School System. I taught 7th and 8th grade biology and social studies and coached football, girls basketball, and fast pitch softball. What a fun time with the kids. Junior high kids were easy for me to relate to because I think that's about my level of maturity. The parents and principals drove me nuts so I moved out of education into coal mining from coal mining into safety because safety guys don't have to work night shifts. There was a time when I could stay up all night but as you all probably know not so much any more unless it is to go to the bathroom. Fortunately it is inside. My Grandpa Wylie did not have indoor plumbing until 1968. Rick Wheeler lives on my Grandpa's old place. Can't think of a better man to have living there.
