John Bonds

I left Belton for the Air Force Dec 5th, 1967. After training at Lackland, I went to Goodfellow AFB for further training as a communications analyst.

I came home to Honea Path to marry Sandra Stewart on the 25th of August 1968.
I went back to Texas to serve in San Antonio with the 6993rd Security Squadron in September. Sandra flew out to join me after graduating from AC in December. James Michael was born at Lackland AFB, in Bexar Co., Texas while we were serving there.

I had to leave Sandra at home in Honea Path while I went to DaNang, South Vietnam to work with the 6924th Security Squadron. While in DaNang, I found and investigated the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I decided to wait until after Vietnam to be baptised so I could discuss it with Sandra. After only six and a half months I came home safely.

We proceded to Darmstadt Germany for our next tour. In Darmstadt I was in the 6910th Security Group (the same outfit that Johnny Cash was in). While at Darmstadt we looked further into the church and decided to make it our home. We joined the LDS church on the 8th of Jul 1971.

We moved with the unit to Augsburg, Germany (near Munich) for the last two years of three. We went to the LDS Temple in Bern Switzerland to be sealed for time and all eternity on 15 Jul 1972. Sandra was very pregant with our second while we were on that trip but we had an MD with us that weekend, and were determined to get back into Germany before our child was born. Paula was born in Augsburg, Germany on the 7th of August 1972.

We came back home to Honea Path in 1974 to start over. Melanie was born in Anderson on the 29th of June 1974, three days before I left the Air Force.

After living and working in Anderson, We moved to Greenville to work. I went back to school at Greenville Tech and graduated with a degree in Computer Programming.

We had a total of about 30 foster children while living in Greenville. David as born in Greenville on the 19th of June 1977, happy fathers day.

I started work with Michelin at the US1 plant near Donaldson Center in 1978, retiring in 2004 after almost 27 years.

AT Michelin I worked as a Troubleshooter in several departments in the plant. I enjoyed what I did and it was a very hard day when I left the company to retire.

I have since returned to work part time with Michelin and I continue doing volunteer work.

Sandra and Volunteer with the Family History Library on Wednesday evenings.

We have eight grand children ages 3 to 15.
All of our children live in the surrounding area. Sandra and I were able to witness the birth of 7 of the 8.

I worked as a volunteer for seven years with the South Greenville Fire department and with the Michelin fire department.

We moved back to Honea Path where we now live in 1981. I usually refer to our home as the Red Roof Inn on Shirley Ave.

I worked part time with Campbell Grading for about ten years part time, operating heavy equipment and driving a variety of trucks hauling anything that came up.

I served as a volunteer Paramedic for fifteen years, working with Belton, Honea Path, and Greenwood County.

I now volunteer as a SC State Constable, serving with several upstate agencies. I have been a police officer since volunteering with Honea Path in 1991.
