Today's Featured Biography
Mary Therese Berta Palumbo
OK, so I've gone a "little" crazy with the Bio...
After high school graduation, I attended Slippery Rock State College/University for a short period but left prior to graduating. I worked for awhile as Recon Control Clerk for Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh, where I met my husband, Frank. We married in June of 1975. I left FHLB intending to further my studies, but chose to devote myself to full-time motherhood upon the birth of my daughter in March of '76. I continued this commitment throughout the next few decades with the additions of my son, Chris, and daughter, Katie.
Throughout that time, I worked off-and-on as a hostess, store clerk, bookkeeper and receptionist. I was also very involved and held several administrative positions in various volunteer organizations. Our children graduated from Slippery Rock, Penn State and Bucknell Universities with degrees in Elementary Ed, Electrical Engineering and Piano Performance, respectively. Lauren is currently pursuing her Masters degree, and Chris obtained his 2005. All three children are gainfully employed. Lauren and Chris married Mike and Jen, respectively, in '05 and '06.
I am fortunate to also have a great stepson, Marty. He treats me with the utmost respect and I'm pleased that he comfortably calls me Mom. His daughter, Bailey, our only grandchild thus far, brings much joy to our lives. Marty works as a cement handler in the south suburbs.
Y2K brought empty nest and some challenges. A back condition found me rethinking my fitness, or lack of it, so to speak. I committed to a lifestyle makeover. I dropped several pounds and became more fit than I had ever been in my life. Best single thing that I ever did for myself.
2003 found us needing to relocate to southern Indiana. It has been a difficult transition, and I miss family and friends more than one can imagine. However, it has been great for mine and Frank's relationship.
Here in Indiana, I've worked successfully as an Optician and a Financial Coordinator for a dental office. I've taken temporary leave to deal with a health issue, but plan to either return to work or further my education in the near future. Currently, we may be looking at relocation once again, as well. Only time will tell.
So, that's my Bio. I am very happy with the direction my life has taken, and would not hesitate to do it all over again.
