JOHN TOLBERT

After high school, I realized that I was not going to go anywhere unless I made some changes. I Worked on oil rigs after I left town in 1981. Returned in 1984. Worked various small jobs in Pgh until 1987. I became interested in running and cycling during my short time back home, and even rode my bike one summer from Pittsburgh to San Fransisco. In 1988 I Left town for good. I have lived in Connecticut since 1989. I Graduated college at 36 in 1996 From Connecticut State University with a BS in history. I Taught Politcal science, World History and coached track and cross country for 5 years at a prep school. I Received my Masters degree from Providence College in 2000 . I Married in 2001, and left teaching.
I am currently partners in a small real estate firm that focuses on waterfront property and I am a private business owner of a small real estate appraisal company. I recently received a graduate degree in residential appraisal, and have been spending much of my time in local courts testifying as an expert witness for tax litigation and divorce proceedings. I have two chocolate labradors that run with me occasionally. My wife was diagnosed with MS shortly before we married, and since we both were in our early 40's it was advised that having a child could be dangerous. My main hobbies include running and golf. I volunteer at the senior community center delivering food when they need me. I have run several marathons within the country, including 5 Pgh, 4 Boston, and 3 Disney. I even ran on my college cross country team at the age of 32 and even made all conference and was voted MVP by my team. My best marathon time is 2:30 and was first overall in the Rockland County NY Marathon, finished in the top 10 in some, and continue to this day, even though I'm much slower. My favorite volunteer postion is for a local road race. The New Haven Labor Day Race is a national championship, and I have been on the board of directors since 1995. I have been the Elite Athlete Coordinator since 2002 , and I love it.
My wife , Berni, is a practice Administrator for a OB/GYN practice in CT. She is in charge of 40 employees, and is a graduate of Quinnipiac College , with a degree in accounting. We both enjoy life together. We go golfing, travel, and always have a large summer party or two in our screen porch. Since my teaching days, I began to follow the Red Sox, and have become a fan since the Summer of 1997 when I spent my first summer living in Boston after my first year of teaching.
I am active in my local church, St. Mary's of New Haven , and I am a lecturer and eucharistic minister.

I wish everyone good health, happiness and a long life.
John Tolbert.
