Today's Featured Biography
Jeanne Schwartz van Emmerik
I will probably be the least-remembered person in KD's class of 79, as my family moved to Fawn Grove just a few days before the start of senior year (my folks still live there). I ended up having to take several classes that had already been taken by the senior class, but were required for graduation in PA. This meant that most of my friends that year were juniors and sophmores - although they welcomed me warmly. The only senior to whom I was very close that year was Ed Marslett, who passed away a few years later. I ran track (an amazing year for the KD team!) and performed in the class play.
After graduating from Kennard-Dale, I left the states to bum around Europe. A year later I returned to the Gulf Coast, where I lived in Louisianna and worked offshore for a while. But the oil industry tanked in the early eighties, so I moved to Seattle, then California, and eventually back to the East Coast. When I returned to Maryland about 15 years ago, I did so in the company of my husband and three children.
We encouraged each of the kids to take a Gap year after high school, so the boys have traveled all over the world and our daughter has seen much of the US.
My husband and I work for the same firm (he is an Engineer and I am in Program Management), but we spend much of our time these days planning our escape (the pre-retirement phase).
I have never been to a KD reunion, because I never felt much of a connection to my classmates there, but I was surprised at how many people I remembered when scrolling through the names of the class of '79 - I even work with Sue Boyd's brother! So if a 35th class reunion comes about, I hope to join in.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
