Today's Featured Biography
Curt Ebersole
I am grateful for the path my life has taken since graduating 40 years ago. (At this point, it seems like another lifetime.) But I’m looking forward to reconnecting with the class on October 1.
As you might guess, my life has followed a musical path. After undergrad and grad school in the School of Music at Northwestern University, I taught at Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan, NJ for 31 years. It was a very successful program, and I’m very proud of it. At NVOT, I directed the String Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Concert Band, and Marching Band, established the annual Prism Concert, and produced/conducted the annual musical theatre production. During a sabbatical, I also earned a second masters degree at SUNY-Purchase in Clarinet Performance.
In 2008, I was invited to join the Westchester Symphonic Winds as conductor/music director. This adult community wind ensemble is based in Tarrytown, NY, and has provided a great number of opportunities in the last several years. These included performances at Avery Fisher Hall/Lincoln Center and three sold-out performances at the Caramoor Festival in Katonah, NY. My conducting experience also opened the doors to quite a few county, region, and all-state festivals as a guest conductor, a performance at Carnegie Hall, and led me to South Korea and Australia to conduct as well. In addition to presenting clinics at local and national conventions, I’ve also had the opportunity to teach at the Temple University Wind Conducting and Teaching Workshop in 2015 & 2016.
I retired from NVOT in 2013, and a former student hired me as the Orchestra Director at The Masters School, a private international day/boarding school in Dobbs Ferry, NY. I no longer drive across the Tappan Zee Bridge every day (a relief), and I'm enjoying the contrast of private vs. public school.
Beyond music, I love all things tech and gadgety, photography, cycling, and spending weekends at our beach house in Cherry Grove, Fire Island. I’ve been happily married to my husband, Tim McVey, for 9 years, and we live in White Plains, Westchester County, New York. And when I have the chance, I travel across the country to ride America's tallest and fastest roller coasters.
