Today's Featured Biography
Lawrence Cushing
I left Boardman when my father took early retirement and moved his Dental Practice to Miami, Florida. We lived on Key Biscayne, an island off of Miami, for 5 years. The house next door to us was rented to vacationing movie stars and during the time I lived on the "Key" several Hollywood types came and went, including, Donald Sutherland and Kiefer, Brian Keith, and Lorne Greene. The experience of living on the key was surreal. It certainly affected my father. He took up with his dental assistant and moved west to Kendall. I became a realtor in Miami and was successful for a number of years selling new houses. I met my wife, Susie, who also worked for the same developer. I was transferred to Boston, Mass. for 8 months right after our first daughter was born. New England was cold and windy. We lived the entire time without a car (never thought we could do that). We were then moved back to Orlando, Florida and decided to leave real estate because the moving around was not good on the family. We bought a private school, Creative Learing Center, with 22 students and in about a year we had grown it to 125. I ran the school (ages 2 thru 13) for 11 years. It was great fun but a lot of responsibility. We had Kate in 1984 and Laura in 1987. What a blessing our daughters have been. I was able to counsel a lot of troubled parents who had children in our school and decided to get a Master's degree in counseling (1992) to better address those issues. We sold the school and moved to Denver, Colorado. In 1994 I got my Master's degree in counseling from Colorado Christian University. Colorado was glorious and we hated to leave but needed to find work. Counseling was not a well paying profession, which I discovered in Orlando. I was offered a sales director position by a friend who was starting a new software company in St Louis. I accepted because we had college tuition to pay for our oldest daughter. I am still in St Louis, working for Dirxion Software as their National Sales Manager. We produce a product that replaces the paper phone book. You can visit our product at www.sbcyellowpages.com/live/activex.htm. I hope to do family counseling in retirement and set up a counseling center in Kirkwood. My wife, Susie, is a realtor with Coldwell Banker. We have been married for 24+ years and have stayed very close to the church. Our children have also been very connected to their youth groups. Christen is a senior at Columbus College of Art, Kate is a freshman at Murray State Univ. in Western Ky. and Laura is a Junior at Kirkwood High. She wants to go to Wake Forest. Our lives have been richly blessed. We have had our struggles and trials as a family, but that is what makes for a good story to tell grand children and sons in law. Blessings to everyone from the graduating class of '68.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
