Tanya Cooley Jackson
Gunnery Sergeant Jackson was born in Columbus, Ohio, on March 3, 1976. She was born to the parents of Carolyn and George Cooley. She enlisted into the Marine Corps on August 8, 1995 and reported to recruit training on Parris Island, SC. She was meritoriously promoted to PFC when she graduated recruit training in November, 1995, and then reported to Camp Lejeune, Courthouse Bay to her Military Occupational Specialty of 1141, Basic Electrician Course.
In February of 1996, she was assigned to 7th Communications Battalion, Okinawa Japan-Camp Hansen. Gunnery Sergeant Jackson deployed to multiple exercises while assigned to 7th Comm. Bn. She again was subject to meritorious promotion to LCpl.
In August of 1997, she was assigned to MWSS 273, Beaufort, SC. From August of 1997 until January of 2001, Gunnery Sergeant Jackson was deployed to multiple exercises in support of MWSS 273, where she served as Section Leader and Platoon Sergeant. She achieved the rank of Corporal in January of 1998 and Sergeant, April of 1999.
In January of 2001, Gunnery Sergeant Jackson requested, received and executed orders to Parris Island, SC for Drill Instructor Duty. She was assigned to 4th Recruit Training Battalion, November Company, where she served as a Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor and earned her Green Belt Martial Arts Instructor Belt. She moved over to Oscar Company, where she served as the Senior Drill Instructor. She was promoted to Staff Sergeant, November of 2002.
In April of 2004, she was assigned to MWSS 274, Cherry Point, North Carolina, where she served as the Engineer Company Utilities Platoon SNCOIC, Maintenance Chief, Electrical Chief and Family Readiness Officer for MWSS 274. In February of 2006, Gunnery Sergeant Jackson was deployed with MWSS 274 to Iraq for 7 months, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where she served as Electrical Project Team Leader. She was promoted to her present rank, October of 2007 with an MOS change to an 1169, Utilities Chief after attending the Utilities chief course.
In July of 2009, she was assigned to 9th ESB 3D MLG, Okinawa, Japan-Camp Hansen, where she served as SNCOIC of the Utilities platoon. In May of 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Jackson was deployed to Afghanistan with 9th ESB for 7 months, where she served as the 9th ESB Support Company Gunnery Sergeant. After returning from Afghanistan, she served as the Utilities Platoon, Maintenance Chief.
In June of 2012, she was assigned to her current duty station Marine Corp System Command South, MCLB Albany GA, where she served as Equipment Specialist for Water and Fuel Gear. She earned an additional MOS of 8060, Acquisition Specialist. And has assisted the Operating Forces with all equipment sustainment and readiness issues covering over (68) TAMCN Items. She also became a Certified Uniformed Victim Advocate. Enjoys spending most of her off time with family and friends while volunteering for the Albany GA Young Marine Program.
Tanya Jackson is currently working as an contractor Equipment Specialist (Supply Analyst) for Marine Corps Systems Command in Albany GA at the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany GA.
Gunnery Sergeant Jackson is married to Marvin Jackson, Jr. of Macon, Georgia; they have one son, Darian (19), and two daughters, Tanyonna (12), and Tamara (9).
