Today's Featured Biography
Cheryl Craft Craft
When I went off to college (SUNY Delhi) with an interest in ecology, I imagined myself eventually working outdoors,perhaps doing some kind of outdoor education. But at SUNY ESF,an independent study project led to a spot as a grad student in a microbiology lab. After 3 more years in Syracuse, I enjoyed more than 10 years in Ithaca, in a Cornell plant pathology research lab, but met a mountain man who'd transplanted himself from Yonkers to the north woods of NY. He had rooted, and so I moved, eventually working again for Cornell, at their Lake Placid potato farm and lab, and for 3 years, helping him run the Loon Lake Golf course, a duffer's paradise, may it RIP. (Another story). Finally and belatedly, we had a baby girl! In college now. The Potato lab closed in 2020, to the sorrow of my crew, but strangely, I ended up close to where I was thinking all those years ago. I'm a Historic Interpreter, with opportunities also for a little natural world education and plenty of time outdoors.
