Today's Featured Biography
Jacki Vallentine Yardley
50 years and counting...
1961 - 1964 graduated Chadron State College majoring in Music Education
1964 - 1965 taught high school vocal music in Valentine, NE
1965 - 1974 sang in church choir, sang for funerals and weddings, taught private piano, bassoon, and voice lessons at home in Loup City, NE
1974 - 1975 taught K-12 music at Arcadia, NE
1975 sold all our belongings, bought a 28 foot "camping" trailer, put the kids and cats in the car and headed toward Seattle (Rod Eichenberger had suggested this to us earlier...he probably doesn't even remember!) Along the way we stopped in Coeur d'Alene, ID and Kent was offered an instrumental teaching job on the spot. We turned it down and stayed the course to Seattle. Washington was laying off teachers right and left at the time, so we just kept going - down the Coast highway from Seattle to San Francisco to Los Angeles to Las Vegas to Nebraska and after three months, decided it was time to get the kids in school! CdA had called a couple of times with yet another opening - we decided to take it.
1975 moved to Coeur d'Alene, ID in September
1978 received Master of Education, Educational Administration degree from University of Idaho
1975 - 1985 taught and coordinated music for nine elementary schools in Coeur d'Alene, ID. Directed church choir, sang with the Coeur d'Alene Community Chorus and the Spokane Chorale, participated heavily in Community Theatre, served on the Spokane/ Coeur d'Alene Symphony Board.
1985 moved to Germany
1985 - 2006 taught elementary music at Frankfurt American Elementary School for three years before moving into administration. I was assigned to several schools during the 20+ years with the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDDS - Department of Defense Dependents Schools) in Germany, including Frankfurt ES, Landstuhl Elementary/Middle School, Ramstein Jr High School (7-9) where we converted the school to a true middle concept becoming Ramstein American Middle School (6-8) and Mannheim American Middle School. Amy was with us the first year and then she, Franz, and Spencer lived with us for a year at the end of our tour. It was great coming home to a glass of wine (or two), dinner ready to be served and clean up part of the "package". It was a delightful time and Chris and his family visited us several times for Christmas and summer vacations. We traveled extensively in Europe and were present for more than one historical event, including the fall of the Berlin Wall (still have several pieces we broke off ourselves)
2006 retired from principalship at Mannheim American Middle School in July. Moved to Richland, WA where our son, daughter-in-law, and two grandsons reside. Our daughter and family are only 2 1/2 hours down the road. We are very grateful that we're getting to spend quantity as well as quality time with our family. We're even seeing some of our own country.
It's been a phenomenal 50 years and ones I certainly wouldn't change. It is wonderful to hear about and from classmates of 1961 - WOW, who would have thought we'd see these days back then?

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
