Today's Featured Biography
Deanna Rogers Powell
After high school, I attended UMKC's Music Conservatory for 1 year studying vocal performance music. My priorities changed when Larry Powell and I started our family.
Larry and I were married, and have 3 beautiful children, Amber, Alora, and Addam. We lived in Eldon, then Springfield, then Lake Ozark. The kids and I still live there. (I know, I made them Osage Indians. We're traitors!!) Larry and I were seperated, and before we were officially divorced, he died in a car accident in 2003.
I have had lots of jobs since high school. The most fun was as a singing cocktail waitress!! I do miss singing, but still get to karaoke every once in a while!! I joined the MOMS Club of Springfield, and when I moved back to the Lake, I started a chapter here. I've been waiting tables and bartending because it is a very flexible schedule so I can almost always be available for my kids.
I want to be a party planner, so I have "Events DEE-signed" in the beginning stages!! Birthdays, showers, bachelorettes, etc... I am taking a bridal consultant course now (should be done before the reunion) so that I can eventually add weddings to the list. It would be nice to make a little money at something I actually have fun doing.
2020 UPDATED PROFILE:
I ended up running an event planning business for a few years at the Lake of the Ozarks. I also switched from bartending to being a social media consultant & photographer for MSW Interactive Designs in Lake Ozark.
I moved to Springfield, MO, in 2017 and since I was able to work from MSW from home, they kept me on. Currently, I have gone down to part-time for them so that I can help Mike Needham (my boyfriend... manfriend... guy I live with... you know what I'm trying to say. LOL) run our board game publishing company, Playco Games, LLC.
I'm a huge geek and I am a volunteer on staff with a local non-profit pop culture convention, Visioncon. Last year I got to nerd out meeting some "famous" people and even got to interview Jewel Staite on stage!! (She was Kaylee from Joss Whedon's Firefly, for the non-nerds out there.)
My kids are spread out across the country (Kansas City, MO, Colorado Springs, CO, & Cincinnati, OH) but I find plenty of projects to keep me busy. (Too many really!!) Anyway, that's about it, I think. I look forward to catching up with everyone in person at the next reunion!!
