Today's Featured Biography
Karin Larson Hill
Name: Karin Larson Hill
Former Address: 2020 12th St. W, Unit 313, Washington DC 20009
Cell Phone: 949-500-1129
E-Mail: (New) [email protected]; [email protected] also still works.
This is a recent move - explained later. Please keep my San Clemente address as I intend to move back to CA in a couple of years.
Address: 1001 Buena Vista #3, San Clemente CA 92672
Phone there: 949-361-9224 (I do check voice mail for messages there)
Birth Date: July 1942
Post HS: Attended St. Olaf College, receiving my BA in Political Science and History in June of 1964. I then attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill, receiving a MA in History and Education in August, 1965. After graduation from Northwestern, I taught High School US and World History for approximately three years and had a little girl Kirsten, born in 1967, in Evanston.
Ken, Kirsten and I moved to southern CA in the fall of 1968. We had a son, David, in August of 1970. David is quite severely developmentally disabled; has Down's Syndrome and numerous other physical handicaps having suffered a stroke at 16. He has lived in a home in Garden Grove, CA, for many years. In spite of the challenges, we have learned much from having David in our lives and his sweetness and unconditional love bring us great joy.
Kirsten graduated from Northwestern with a BA degree in History and Comparative Literature and received a Master's Degree in Comp Lit from UCLA. While expecting to pursue a career in academics, she has spent the last 8 years in Instructional Design in the business world but is hoping to shift back to an education oriented career going forward.
Occupation/Profession: After staying home with the children for a few years, I returned to the work force in 1971 and quite by chance developed a long career in the Financial Services industry - primarily in mortgage and consumer lending. It was extremely sad to spend what I expected to be the last stages of my working career experiencing the economic and housing dislocation of the last couple of years.
However, it also opened up a new and exciting opportunity for me. I recently moved to Washington DC to take a position as Director, Program Development for Single Family Housing at HUD/FHA. I moved and started the new job in early June. It is challenging and extremely interesting. As my daughter said - you are finally getting to do what you wanted to do when you graduated from college - politics, public policy and living in DC!
Kirsten had just finished a job so, since we were both footloose and fancy free, she decided to move with me - somewhat of an experience after not living together for 20 years. We are renting a condo in the city. We are purposely making this an urban experience and thinking of it as a grand adventure.
Favorite Memories: A trip to Norway in 2001; winning in Las Vegas; Carlos Santana, Eagles and Elton John concerts; our 30th Class Reunion and wonderful times spent with my parents after they moved to CA. I really miss them!
Favorite Pastimes: Traveling, Reading, Concerts, Las Vegas and visiting my sister near Lake Tahoe.
Hard to Break habit: Smoking, but I finally did in November of 2008.
Future Plans: After a year of getting myself in order - stopped smoking, physical exercise and a serious diet, I have never felt better, more free and more adventuresome, which is a great place to be at his age. I expect to work for a few more years, see as much as I can of the east coast and then retire to the beach in San Clemente and hopefully experience more world wide travel.

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
