Today's Featured Biography
Sheila Zurbriggen Carlson
I remarried in 1984 to a wonderful man who was a teacher. He passed away in 1999 due to liver disease. I have had 3 back surgeries and have degenerative disc disease and other problems with my spine, so now I am in chronic severe pain from the waist down, and I am bedridden. I can't stand, sit or walk very long, or very much or very far because it causes more intense pain. I have scar tissue wrapped around the nerves at the base of the spine, and arthritis in the spine. I had open heart surgery, a double bypass in 1998. My twin, Mike, had the same thing in 2004. They say it is genetic because I was so young. I was left with unstable angina, which means I get chest pains with no provacation. I have arterial disease.
I do live independently and am able to care for myself. I just can't be up out of bed long.
Despite my health problems, I am surrounded by so much love. I am very close to my daughters, and grandsons, and I have some very close friends, including Bonnie Schweihs who lives by me. I have wonderful, kind, loving neighbors and my parents live 2 doors down from me and help me with whatever they can. I have been very blessed. My daughters live in Minnesota, but we talk daily, sometimes more than daily. I am trying to get back to Minnesota, so I can be with my daughters. We came out to AZ for my husband's health in 94.
I had some wonderful life experiences too. I got to see Guatemala and Hawaii, and have been a free lance writer. I wrote for several Minnesota newspapers. My biggest blessing - my daughters and grandsons, and my family and friends!
I didn't graduate from Lourdes, but I went there 3 yrs. I always felt more like Lourdes was my family than any other school.
I hated having to leave my senior year. I get very sentimental thinking of all my old classmates and friends. I have many beautiful memories of times I spent with everyone. I love the pictures of everyone. I also loved the last reunion in the early 90s. It was so good to see everyone. I won't be able to come to any reunions, but I thought I would write this just in case others had written something. If not, you can toss it! ha.
